EDCI 302: An Introduction

Hello! My name is Bryce and I'm a new student in the Middle Years PDPP at the University of Victoria. I arrived here through a winding path that featured stints in biochemistry and psychology. After discovering that I didn't enjoy lab work or acedemia, I looked at what I enjoyed doing and realized that I prefer to help people grow and discover new things.

I didn't think I'd ever have a blog, but in the space of a week I've created two! If the PDPP has emphasized anything, it's the importance of communication. With that in mind, I will be using this blog to discuss English Language Arts in the middle school classroom.

In the middle school classroom, I expect English Language Arts to generate a lot of discussion. Middle school students can be very energized and restless, so I think that a program that accommodates this is important in having things run smoothly. It is also a difficult period as students are experiencing a lot of personal changes. Sympathy and understanding from the teacher and other students needs to be a high priority. An ELA classroom should then look like an inviting place to be, with displays of personal work and colour throughout the room. It should appear to be a place that students are confortable to spend time in and also to express themselves.
